This project is only possible because of every single person that saw our pitch for a mockumentary about the mounting of the world’s first oil positive Shakespearean musical in a subarctic Canadian urban service area and said, “This is an important story that I want to see get made”.

What started as a cure for depression has become one of the most joyous projects we have made. It grew from local funding sources to having the whole country involved in getting it made.

FORT MACBETH is a mockumentary following a disgraced Toronto actor who relocates to the remote oil town of Fort McMurray to direct an “oil-positive” community theatre production of Macbeth. Armed with delusions of grandeur and a cast of amateur actors, he hopes to salvage his career and pay off his Beanie Baby debt.

Our Story

After a move to Fort McMurray, a sudden death in the family, and the coldest, longest winter ever experienced, writer/producer Nils Hognestad was helped out of a large depression by his theatre school bestie and director, Aviva Zimmerman (a fellow Dead Dad Club member), through their development of this mockumentary.

'Fort Macbeth' turned a less than desirable situation into a Shakespearean mockumentary musical that saved Nils, and may just save you, as well.
